President Mubarak Adresses Protesters in Tahrir Square

Mubarak said:
He is proud of the Egyptian people for being committed to change for a better life.  "The blood of your martyrs will not be wasted."  He promised to hold accountable all the people responsible for the bloodshed.  He has been pained for the sake of their family members.

He will respond to their demands and is committed and determined to carry out all of his promises.  “Your demands are just and legitimate.”

I have said that I will not nominate myself for any more elections and that I am content with what I have done for our country.  I will ensure that power is transferred who is chosen by the people in elections.  I must do this in a way that will ensure stability and a smooth transition of power among all sections of society with all transparency.

“We have started a national dialogue that has brought together all of the forces that have started this as well as all who are involved.”  They have created a kind of harmony that will move on with a specific time table.  The dialogue has come out with a committee that will study the changes to constitution and another committee that will oversee the implementation of these changes and the promises he has made.

He has asked for an amendment of six provisions of the constitution that target the terms for candidacy for the president as well as make it easier to transfer power.

He says that he is working to lift the state of emergency and working to lift the confidence of the Egyptian people and ensure the confidence in the changes that have started will not fade.

"These are difficult times", Mubarak said that it is not about him, but it is about the Egyptian people working together to restore confidence in their economy and safety of the Egyptian people.

He talked about his life of service in Egypt’s defense, in its military and as its leader.  He says he has never bowed to foreign demands.

He said that he has confidence that Egypt will pass through these difficult times.  He has delegated the vP to carry out a lot of powers and is confident that Egypt will not break its will, the will of its people, and come out standing on her feet.  Prove that Egypt is not servants of anyone.  He said that he hopes for peace for the Copts (Coptic Christians), Muslims, and for people not born yet.
